My illustrations and interpretive projects illuminate lesser-known aspects of history and the natural world.
Hi! I’m Angela—a scientific illustrator and interpretive planner.
I create illustrations for scientists, publishing companies, and community organizations such as museums. Much of my work supports researchers studying concepts that are less understood by the general public and/or the scientific community at large; people working in fields such as mycology, entomology, and cellular biology.
I’m also the co-founder of an interpretive services and illustration company called Studio Understory.
Scientific Illustration
I communicate scientific research through hand-rendered, digitally-refined illustrations. My work has been published by Cell Press, Yale University Press, Chicago University Press, and Mountaineers Books.
Murals for public sites, businesses, and private homes
Designed to connect people with places, reinforce brand identity, or just make your bathroom pretty.
Conceptual illustration for books and other applications
Always up for a challenge, I take on unique projects such as book cover illustrations for academic publications, and chapter headings for scientific publications written for a general audience.
Art and illustration instruction
I lead workshops in scientific illustration, often for colleges with natural history collections. I also sometimes teach one-on-one lessons to people of varying ages and abilities.
