A diorama for Yellowstone National Park
at the Albright Visitor Center
Yellowstone’s Northern Range is a biodiverse landscape shaped by volcanoes and glaciers.
I worked with Seattle exhibit design company Pacific Studio to create a diorama interpreting Northern Range ecosystems. We integrated representations of several biomes—temperate, prairie, riparian—into a historic home that was once part of a fort and is now part of a visitor center. (Read: interesting design challenges!). Taxidermy from Yellowstone’s collections brought our fabricated scene to life.

Early spring on the Northern Range, and the pine forest teems with life. I guided fabricators in accurate tree branch welding.

Lovely wood-lined graphics, designed by my friend and collaborator Amity Femia, interpret the wildlife you might see in this area of the park.

We made this trout pond look convincing with hand-cast, hand-painted river rocks.

Casing, signage, and lighting turned a wild wonderland into a cohesive exhibit.
I detailed most of the exhibit's surfaces as an eagle's eyes literally watched over.

Teammates and I shared the mold-and-cast process with some young designers.
