Illustrations for the Missouri Mycological Society

Missouri’s fens, fields, and deciduous woods are fine places to forage for fungi.
While living there, I illustrated a different species for every issue of the MOMS Earthstar Examiner. Each fungus portrait was made with watercolor and locally-sourced black walnut ink.

MAY 2020: A stick covered in crust fungus (genus Hymenochaete), found in Tower Grove Park, St. Louis
APRIL 2021: A stick populated with a mushroom named Trametes conchifer. Found in Tower Grove Park, St. Louis.

NOVEMBER 2020: Walnut mycena (Mycena crocea) found by the Missouri River near Augusta, MO

JANUARY 2021: false turkeytails create a home for green algae in the middle of winter. Found in Kennedy Forest, St. Louis.
